ActiveSync Email - iPhone, Android, Surface Windows 10 Mail

1. Configure "Full Exchange" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync is available as an optional add-on to SmarterMail. Unlike other synchronization methods, Exchange ActiveSync uses direct push technology to sync email, calendars, and contacts to the iPhone in real time.


Applies to All Enterprise Versions of SmarterMail

To set up your iPhone to access Exchange ActiveSync, follow these steps:

  1. On your iPhone's home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  5. Complete the following required fields:
    • Email (your full email address)
    • Server (mail.yourdomain.com)
    • Domain name (mail.yourdomain.com)
    • Username (your full email address)
    • Password
    • Description (Optional)
  6. Tap Next.
  7. After a moment, the iPhone will ask for the server information. This is the URL to your webmail. For example, mail.example.com. NOTE: Do not include Http:// when entering the server information.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. If your webmail does not support SSL, the following message will display: "Exchange account verification failed."
    • Tap Next and then tap Save—complete step 10 of these setup instructions.
    • After step 10, edit the account you just added.
    • Tap Account Info.
  10. The iPhone will display a list of collaboration items to sync with Exchange ActiveSync. Choose from the list and tap Done to initiate the first sync.

2. Set up "Exchange ActiveSync" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When you add your Exchange ActiveSync account, you can wirelessly sync your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes with your iOS device. 

Add your Exchange account.

Tap Settings > Mail > Add Account > Exchange.


Click "Configure Manually" do not select the "Sign In" option. 

Enter your information

Enter your email address and password. You can also enter an account description.


Connect to the Exchange Server

Your iOS device will try to find your Exchange Server. You might have to enter the additional server information. 

  • Server = Incoming and Outgoing Exchange ActiveSync Server = mail.s2csecuremail.com
  • Server = Incoming and Outgoing Full Exchange Server = mail.yourdomain.com
  • Leave "Domain" empty.
  • Your username is always your full email address.
  • The password should be in your set-up email.
  • The description is a personal choice. 


Sync your content

You can sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes. When you're finished, tap Save.



Edit your Exchange settings.

Tap Settings > Mail, and select your Exchange account, then tap Account Info. You can also go here to set up automatic out-of-office replies and change how often you want Mail to sync. By default, Mail will sync every seven days.

3. Android Phone or Tablet for Exchange Activesync

 

NOTE: Exchange ActiveSync does not support the corporate calendar or email applications for the Motorola Droid, Droid 2, and Droid X. These phones utilize a special application that does not follow Exchange ActiveSync standards.

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync is available as an optional add-on to SmarterMail. Unlike the other synchronization methods, Exchange ActiveSync uses direct push technology to sync email, calendars, contacts, tasks, notes, and folders in real time. Once you have activated the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync add-on and enabled the feature for an email account in SmarterMail, the Android device will need to be configured.

Applies to SmarterMail Enterprise 8.x - 15.x

Follow these steps to connect your Android device to SmarterMail via Exchange ActiveSync:

  1. On your Android device, navigate to the settings menu.
  2. Click Accounts & Sync.
  3. Click Add Account.
  4. Click Corporate.
  5. Enter your email address and your password, and click Next.
  6. In the Domain\Username field, enter your username and domain using the following format: \example@mydomain.com.
  7. Your password should automatically be entered. If not, enter it now.
  8. In the Server field, enter the URL for the webmail interface (webmail.example.com)
  9. If you are not using SSL, ensure that Use Secure Connection (SSL) is unchecked.
  10. Click Next and configure your personal preferences for the frequency and amount of data to synchronize.
  11. Click Next again, configure your name and the connection name, and click Done.

Your Android-powered device is now set up to synchronize data using Exchange ActiveSync.


Android - Email settings

To add your e-mail account, follow these steps:


    1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.
       
    2. Navigate to Settings > Accounts > Add account.
    3. Touch Email.
    4. Enter your Email account type; here, you would select Exchange ActiveSync, then touch the password field. You will be directed to a different screen.
    5. Check your email address, then touch Next.
       
    6. Enter your password. Then, touch Sign in.

    7. Review the email account access information. Then, touch Allow.
       
    8. The email will be added to your accounts list.


To add additional accounts:

  1. From a Home screen, touch Apps
  2. Touch Email. 
  3. Touch Inbox.
  4. Then, touch Settings.
  5. Touch Add account.

The device communicates with the appropriate server to set up your account and synchronize your email. When complete, your email appears in the Inbox for the account.

Android - Synchronize Calendars YouTube Video

  • You can synchronize your mobile device’s calendar with your Facebook® account, your Google™ Calendar, and/or your ActiveSync® account.
  • Once you have added your Facebook, Google Account, or ActiveSync account to the device, you can synchronize each account’s calendar with your device’s calendar. Changes made on the account or your device will be updated during each synchronizing session.
  • Calendar items that are saved to the device storage can be synced with your Samsung account. To sync these items, add your Samsung account using the steps below. Those events will also be added to this device if you have used your Samsung account to sync calendars from previous devices.

 

Adding your Samsung account:

    1. To turn synchronization on for one of your accounts, from the Home screen, touch Menu Menu key > Settings Settings Shortcut > Accounts.
    2. Touch the account type that contains the calendar you want to synchronize with your device.
    3. If you have more than one account listed, touch the account you wish to have synchronized.
    4. Touch Sync Calendar to mark the checkbox. Your device will immediately begin synchronizing the calendar.
    5. Touch Back to exit the sync settings screen.
    6. If necessary, repeat the steps for any other accounts.

 

4. Surface - Windows 10 - Windows Mail 

You can add additional accounts so that you can work with other email accounts all in one place.

  1. Select Start > Mail > Add account.

  2. Select the type of account you want to add, and then enter the email address and password for that account.

  3. Select Sign inDone when your account is set up.


Add an email account by using advanced settings.

If you cannot set up your new account with the automated process, you can use the Advanced setup option to add your account. See below for instructions.

You might, for example, receive a notification about your account not being found. Or you might be unable to add your account after a few tries.

Error message in Mail

 
  1. Select Start > Mail > Add account.

  2. Scroll down and select Advanced setup.
  3. Choose your account type. If you're unsure what type of account you have, check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

    • For Exchange ActiveSync, add your account information and your Server and Domain name. For example, add mail.server.com in the Server box, where mail.server.com is your Exchange server name.

    • For POP or IMAP accounts, add your account information, account type, and Incoming and Outgoing Servers. If you don't know this information, contact your ISP.

      For example, add mail.s2csecuremail.com, ###, where mail.s2csecuremail.com is your POP or IMAP server, and ### is the port number that's used to connect to the server. Or add smtp.server.com:###, where smtp.server.com is the SMTP server, and  ### is the port number that's used to connect to the server.
